Description
The Prevention Specialist Certification Board of Washington (PSCBW) is pleased to provide this Washington State Substance Abuse Prevention Systems Training (WA-SAPST) based upon a national curriculum developed by the U.S. Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and further developed by the PSCBW through a contract with the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services’ Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (DBHR).
This training is supported by funds from DBHR and is offered in place of the Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST). The WA-SAPST was updated to include material relevant to prevention practitioners in Washington State. The main focus of the WA-SAPST is to train the participants in implementing the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) within Washington State. The WA-SAPST also meets the training requirements for the Community Prevention Wellness Initiative (CPWI).
Training Fee: The cost is $25 per person plus the $3.45 payment processing fee for a total of $28.45 . Click on the green button, "Tickets," to pay by credit/debit card via this Eventbrite website.

Trainers: This WA-SAPST training will be facilitated by Jennifer Dorsett and Kristi Sharpe, prevention professionals who have extensive experience in the prevention field.
Attendance and Certificate of Completion: Participants are required to fully attend 3 and 3/4 days of the training. Upon completion, each participant will be awarded a certificate. The PSCBW has approved hours for this WA-SAPST to be used toward the application for a Certified Prevention Professional or Associate Prevention Professional credential. Public school personnel may be eligible to obtain school clock hours pertaining to this training through the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction or through their Educational Services District (you must inquire directly).

New Important Information - For those participants who have DBHR funding, the state is requiring that a prerequisite online course be completed prior to attending the training. The cost of $89 to take the course will be covered by DBHR.
Online Course Information: Prevention Solutions Course: "Introduction to Substance Abuse Prevention"Available Online at https://psonline.edc.org Additional Information: 2 of the 5 hours will qualify as drug education for certification. At this time, for non-DBHR funded participants there is No prerequisite. However, WA-SAPST trainers strongly encourage WA-SAPST participants to also take the aforementioned course if time and resources permit.
How to Get to the Training: See the Google map below, with options for how to get there by car, walking, public transportation and biking.
Parking, Food and Travel Information: The Pasco Police Department is less than 10 Miles from Pasco airport. Pasco has Uber and several taxi services. There are plenty of hotel options, Red Lion near the airport also has restaurants inside. It is less then a 10 min. drive to several food options: Starbucks (coffee), McGills (family owned, great food) Cousins (American), Applebee’s (american), Fiesta (Mexican), Teriyaki Grill (rice, veggies and meat), Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Little Cesar’s ( all pizza, salads, wings etc). Wing Stop (wings:) Fast food options (McDonald’s, Arby’s, Taco Bell, Panda Express).
You are encouraged to dress comfortably and in layers. Light refreshents such as coffee/tea will be provided in the morning and afternoon. There will be a one hour break for lunch. Attendees are responsible for their own lunch, transportation, and travel costs.
Transferring your Registration: Should you be unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. Please go back into Eventbrite and edit your registration information to reflect the substitute.
Cancellation Policy: If your registration is confirmed and you find that you must cancel, please be considerate and let Ginlin know as soon as possible so others who may be on the wait list can be offered admission to the training. The registration fee will only be refunded for cancellations that occur at least a week prior to the start of the training.
